The Real Reason why Fox's Digital Transfer wasn't a Big Deal

I just got back from Costco where I got Blue Harvest for $12.99 after the $10 instant discount.

This image sums it all up:

No iTunes exclusive – these kinds of digital copies have been made available for WMP users for years (WMV-HD anyone?) The difference is in how it gets perceived reported by the press who are covering Apple.

Don’t get me wrong- I’m glad to have both.  But this is a parity play by Fox.

  1. Am I incorrect in thinking that the iTunes version will transfer and play on an iPod while the Zune is not a Plays For Sure compatible portable media device and will not play the Windows Media Player version?

  2. At first I wasn’t sure I followed you. But now I see that this is the *same* DVD that got all the press for offering an iTunes Digital Copy. Funny how everyone forgot to mention that it also comes with a WMV version for PlaysForSure devices. The only rational for why this might have happened is because both Fox and Apple produced the joint press release for MacWorld.

    Thanks for posting the screenshot!

  3. Lance – yes, that’s my understanding.

  4. Alex – yes, I was a little vague there 🙂 Thanks for the link!
