MTV announces plans to launch MCE Service

The Windows Media Center freight train just keeps on rolling. Earlier this week, MTV announced plans to launch a Web-based video channel called, MTV Overdrive by April 25th. Content will include News, Music, On TV and Movies. New movie trailers will be made available and broadcasts will be done in Windows Media Video. And here’s the surprise announcement…

They will soon release a version of Overdrive optimized for Windows XP Media Center Edition!

I’ll post more details as soon as I get them. This is a big deal, even if you don’t fall into the MTV demographic.

  1. This is good news, even if you not in to MTV
In my podcast I could tell Charlie (Owen) was really excited about Online Spotlight and what comming up.
I recorded an interview with TVTonic (look out that show soon) and I can see Spotlight beeing massive soon, they have soom great plans for there service.

In the show that due to go out anyday now, myself and Mick Stanic (from the podcastnetwork) also talked about Online Spotlight. Its a hot topic at the moment

I think you guys are doing a great job with MCE πŸ™‚

  2. Now I’m absolutely thrilled about this. I had been trying to get into the Overdrive beta…no luck. I hope the Overdrive video content is encoded around 500-700k at least. It seems most of MTV’s recent vids are in the 400k range. Better, but not great.

Not sure why they have to be DRM’d? Not like you can buy those music videos anyway? I have two MCE boxes…and I like my music videos available on both. We’ll see.

  3. p.s. Still looking forward to the Discover Channel/Fox Sports/Yahoo MCE channels. πŸ™

  4. Discovery/Fox/Yahoo are coming- just took a little longer than expected from what I hear from the team. Stay tuned:)

  5. thx for the update Sean. πŸ™‚
